Karen Snow has studied various techniques of silk painting and
fabric embellishment for over fifteen years. "Silk painting has
given me a deeper understanding of the importance creativity should
play in all aspects of our lives," Karen explains. "It helps to
maintain a balance between the need for beauty in our lives and the
hectic pace of living in today's world."
She is a member of Silk Painters International (SPIN), and
founded the local SPIN chapter, Second Sunday Silk Painters,
which meets monthly to explore a variety of silk painting techniques
and to encourage new artists.
Karen delights in sharing her knowledge of silk fabrics, the dyes
and paints formulated especially for silk's natural protein fibers,
and the use of color to enhance the fluid drape of lovely silk
fashions and accents for the home.
She is an Illinois Artisan, and her work is shown in the Illinois
Artisan shops in downtown Chicago's Thompson Center, Springfield's
Illinois State Museum Shop, and the artisan's village in Rend Lake,
IL, where she also teaches silk painting workshops.
Karen is currently teaching classes and workshops in basic silk
painting, the French serti (resist) technique and advanced silk
painting, and offers programs to private groups and studios for all
skill levels. "I learn something from every student," she affirms.
"Each person brings their unique creative talents and we all share
in the learning process."
She currently serves as Assistant Gallery Chairman of the
LaGrange Art League and arranges their four month-long featured
artist shows each year. Karen is co-chair of the annual Fine Art
of Fiber show for the North Shore Weavers Guild, and
demonstrates various silk painting techniques for other artist
groups and community colleges throughout Illinois.
Her work is available through the Illinois State Museum Shop in
Springfield and the Artisan Shops in Chicago and Rend Lake, IL; on
her website, www.silkforallseasons.com; plus many specialty shops,
spas and boutiques.
